Pet-Ct

PET / CT, especially in oncology, determining the tumor, determining the degree (staging), evaluating the response to the treatment, planning the radiotherapy, and in some cases, determining whether the mass is good or malignant. It is the most advanced medical imaging technique used. In addition, determination of the focus of the epilepsy patients, neurological cases such as Alzheimer's disease in the early stage of diagnosis and the presence of heart tissue after heart attack in the presence of live tissue is also used. The most important feature is to provide functional information and take all body images in 3 dimensions.

Where is PET used?

The most common use is oncologic studies. (85%)
In addition, PET (10%) and brain (5%) can be made in PET shots.
1- In the studies of oncology, the whole body image is taken. It provides information about whether the suspicious lesion contains cancer tissue, whether it has spread to the body, the effectiveness of the treatments, the recurrence after treatment.
2-Cardiak PET; only images of the heart are taken. It is the most reliable method for detecting the viability of the heart muscle.
3 - Brain PET; It is used to determine the location of epileptic foci which are resistant to medical treatment and which are considered surgical treatment.

What is the indication of PET in oncologic cases?

1 - In the investigation of the possibility of malignancy detected by other imaging methods,
-Lung cancer
-Plephagus cancer
-Kolorectal cancer
-Lenfoma
-Melano to
-Over-cervical cancers
Can be used in breast-neck cancers.
2 - Pre-treatment staging of known tumor mass and staging after treatment
-Lung cancer
-Plephagus cancer
-Kolorectal cancer
-Lenfoma
-Melanoma
-Over-cervical cancers
Can be used in breast-neck cancers.
3 - In the evaluation of the response to treatment; If the efficacy of chemotherapy is detected in early period, treatment scheme may change.
4 - In the post-treatment follow-up, in the evaluation of relapses or residual tissue
5 - Staging of primary tumors and prognosis (especially in a common head and neck tumor or glioma)
In the detection of the biopsy site in a mass; biopsy taken from the place where uptake is intense.

What are the substances used for PET extraction?

Nowadays, FDG (2-Fluorodeoxy-D-glucose) is used, which is the most commonly seen (95%) glucose metabolism with f-18. Also, positron emitting radionuclides such as C-11, N-13, O-15 are used to provide information about perfusion, metabolism and receptors by binding with various agents. (most of them are used in routine).
